Additional ICYMI Items of Note:

CTEC saved approximately $15,000 on the yellow tool storage cage. (A company quoted them $16,000 for the job and the CTEC students were able to do the work for $1,000! Making our Finance Department very happy. 🙂 )

We had an amazing response from a VERY grateful district. Thanks to everyone who helped us finish the sentence. The most common reasons why our staff is grateful involved faith, family, coworkers & students. It seems like we’re doing something right!

STRAIGHT FROM OUR AWESOME TECHNOLOGY TEAM

A new semiregular section helping you navigate through our ever-changing technological world. Btw, make sure to thank our technology employees for the great work they do behind the scenes every day.

This month, the team is walking you through a great resource to look up your fellow employees that can be accessed from the same Gmail inbox you use every day.

MEET MARIVEL PALOS, DISTRICT TRANSLATOR

Ms. Palos works tirelessly translating the many documents that need translating every day. Additionally, she is a kind and friendly person. We recently had a chance to sit down with her and ask her more about herself & we thoroughly enjoyed the experience!.

How do you usually spend Thanksgiving and Black Friday?

We’re going over to my daughter’s house this Thanksgiving. It’s a good time to get together. My husband cooks the turkey and I make the cake. My daughter does the dressing. Her in-laws make the ham. Everyone pitches in. I don’t go shopping on Black Friday because I don’t like all the crowds, so we just stay home and spend time together as a family. Shopping online is better. It gives me time to play board games with the family.

How do you relax?

I put on headphones and clean. I either clean while talking one of my sisters on the phone or I clean while listening to music. If I’m talking to my sister she usually cleans her house at the same time. So we’re both not thinking about what we’re doing. It makes the cleaning go a lot faster.

What type of music do you like?

I love country music. Some of my favorite artists are Tracy Lawrence and Garth Brooks. I also like Josh Groban. I went to see him in concert at the Hollywood Bowl a couple of years ago.

Are you excited that Christmas is around the corner?

Yes, I’m really excited because one of my daughters is getting married in Mexico! She got married last year in America and now she’s going to have it with our family and my son-in-law’s family in Mexico. So we’re going to bring the party to them. 🙂 Her name is Michelle Cortez and she’s a third-grade dual language teacher at Henderson Elementary. She’s pregnant with her first baby that’s due in March. I can’t wait!

I also have a son named Miguel who is studying business at Blinn College. And I have a younger daughter named Kimberly that’s studying Communications.

DON’T FORGET TO “BRAG” ON A FELLOW EMPLOYEE

Bryan Brag

Bryan Brag is sweeping across the district. FIRST, employees are filling out this form:

SEND A "BRYAN BRAG" to A WORTHY EMPLOYEE HERE

THEN, worthy employees are receiving certificates including the positive things others said about them. And, the nominated employee and their supervisors, including the superintendent, are also receiving the certificates. (Spreading the love!)

STILL NOT CONVINCED THAT BRYAN BRAG IS AMAZING? Well then, take a gander at Purchasing Specialist Mandy Tyler’s smile after receiving a Bryan Brag. There’s no arguing with that!
