Additional Gifts

“I share this memory with full awareness of what this post will say a lot about my age. ๐Ÿ™‚ I have such a vivid memory of receiving a pocket-sized transistor radio when I was eight. It sounds crazy to say but that was cutting edge technology in 1964. Having discovered its dresser drawer hiding place well in advance of Christmas, I would sneak in and give a listen when Mom wasn’t around. (So much so that the battery was dead when Santa left it as a gift on Christmas morning.)”
-Debbie Richards

“A gold, engraved heart locket on a gold chain from my Great-Aunt Madeline, for whom I was named.  The French locket was sent to her on her 16th birthday by her older brother who was stationed in France at the time, during World War II.”
-Madeline Styron

“The most memorable gift Iโ€™ve received was a letter from a student that I struggled with building a relationship with all last year. I cried when reading it, and it always brings tears to my eyes when I think about it. She gave this to me as my “gift” on the last day of school.”

A HUGE HEART

A few weeks before Thanksgiving, Justin Smith, community outreach officer, found out about a family who could not afford to have a Thanksgiving meal this year. Instead of feeling simply bad about it, Justin decided to swoop into action. He worked tirelessly to identify 77 families who needed financial assistance with their Thanksgiving meals. Then, he organized Justin Payton to smoke the turkeys donated by a very special but anonymous person & several volunteers including Bryan ISD Board members, employees and community members to deliver the Thanksgiving meals with sides and tea included. The families were so grateful for the meals.

And, Justin didn’t stop there. He also served as Santa Clause at a Henderson Elementary’s recent Read by Third event.

Suffice to say, it is a pleasure to work with Justin Smith and an honor to know him. We’re sure you all agree.
