TEA has provided districts with scoring rubrics (links are below) for the Speaking portion of the TELPAS online assessment.\u00a0 For example, the Four-Point rubric has 5 language proficiency criteria that are used to assign points:\u00a0 Completeness of Response; Syntax\/Sentence Structure, Grammar; Vocabulary\/Word Choice; Pronunciation and Fluency; and Use of L1 (first language).\u00a0\u00a0Here is the first criterion for the Four-Point rubric:<\/p>\n

One method to ensure success during the Speaking portion of the test is to have students write their responses down before recording them.\u00a0 This will give them more confidence while speaking and minimize deletions and re-recordings of responses.<\/p>\n

It is essential that students be given the opportunity to practice these skills prior to taking the TELPAS online assessments.\u00a0 Campus Testing Coordinators should be arranging practice time\u00a0for all LEP students.<\/p>\n
