Informational Item:
Proclamation 2020 calls for English language arts and reading instructional materials for high school courses and English as a second language instructional materials for middle and high school courses. The adopted materials are scheduled to go into classrooms in the 2020–21 school year.
The process for this adoption is currently underway. High school ELA teachers and Instructional Coaches will be asked to serve as campus representatives. Members of the committee will be asked to do the following:
- Attend an initial introductory meeting in November where the process will be outlined
- Take shipment of samples provided by vendors
- Provide teachers access to textbook samples during the designated time periods
- Obtain and submit input from campus ELA teachers using a rubric Attend presentations from vendors
- Submit the campus vote for final selection
The timeline for the adoption process is as follows:
- September – October: Committee member selection
- November: Introductory meeting with the committee and public viewing of adoption resources
- December: Committee member recommendations due
- January: Vendor presentations and final votes due
- February: Board presentations of final selections
