Texan PROUD All Day Every Day

The first semester has come and gone and January is already half-way over! The DMS PBIS team is very PROUD of the work that all staff and scholars have done this year to make PBIS even more successful.

For those who need a refresher of PBIS (let’s face it, August was a couple sleeps ago), let’s review:
PBIS focuses on the positive in order to influence and affect change on our campus. We reward scholars exhibiting behaviors we want to see. Does that mean we don’t give consequences? Absolutely not! But, research shows that by providing rewards and incentives for appropriate behaviors, there is a decrease in undesired behaviors. In order to reward the positive, we have defined campus expectations (here) using the PROUD acronym.
When you see a scholar being PROUD, reward the behavior! Give specific and positive feedback: “Johnny, thank you so much for coming in at a level 0, gathering your supplies, and sitting in your seat. You showed that you were responsible; I’m giving you 2 PROUD points.”

Speaking of points, our campus has awarded 326,525 points this year. Scholars have spent 158,845 points on various items in the campus and your teacher stores!

If you have any suggestions on other high-interest items for the campus store, we would love to hear them!  Texan PROUD!

A story shared with me this morning: “You know that stuff you gave me yesterday…

I gave Mrs. Hernandez items that were in Ri’s stocking, however, she considered herself to mature for them. (i.e. Pez Head candy, Lip Smackers lip gloss, Silly Puddy, etc…bless my mom for her stocking stuffers.

…boys were buying the lip gloss for their girlfriends!” The moral of the story, you never know what other people will spend PBIS points on!
