Thank you, thank you, thank you to parents and families for a great Big Kahuna Fundraiser. We should make a profit of around $11,000 which is about $4,000 more than last year. These funds are used by our PTO to provide t-shirts for every student and staff member, goodies for teachers, classroom resources, field trips and many other items that campus budgets do not allow for. We are also earmarking funds to purchase more playground equipment and/or a track. We will be sharing information about our spring fundraiser in the next few months.
Each year School Nutrition Services is happy to welcome guests to our annual Thanksgiving meal prepared and served by the school cafeteria. Unfortunately, this year due to severe supply chain issues and labor shortages we will only receive enough food and supplies to provide meals to enrolled students and to the staff assigned to each campus. We will not be able to provide meals for parents and guests. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this challenging time for us. We look forward to serving you next year.
Our school t-shirts got caught up in the supply chain issues that everyone is facing. We are told that we will have them soon! Let’s keep our fingers crossed!
We had our first program and family engagement night. It was a huge success. 4th grade students did a phenomenal job and have set the bar high for the remaining grade levels. Thank you to our music teacher, Mrs. Tarver for bringing out the very best talents in our students! I know that each grade level will do great and am excited to be a part of this return to normalcy! Next up is our 3rd grade program on December 9th. Please be on the lookout for information on this event.
Field trips are in full swing with Explore taking a trip to the Houston Museum of Natural Science on Tuesday the 2nd. We are scheduling other grade levels now. Please be on the lookout for information on your child’s trip. Next up, the 4th grade students will attend the Texas A&M University Women’s Basketball game on December 1st.
KBTX Food for Families Food Drive starts on November 8th. This is a great opportunity to teach and model philanthropy for our students. Please consider donating a non perishable food item to this worthy cause. The top classroom in each grade level who collects the most items will earn a popcorn party.
Have you been wondering why there have been so many professional development days built into the school calendar? TEA is requiring that all K-3 teachers participate in and successfully complete a Reading Academy. This academy is extensive and thorough in teaching theory and application of strategies for teaching reading. Teachers are gaining a broad depth of knowledge and are becoming better prepared to meet the needs of a variety of learners in the area of reading. Fourth grade teachers are also participating in the academy and upper levels have built in professional development that is applicable and beneficial to their grade levels and content areas. Teachers will finish the Reading Academy in May 2022.
I am enjoying getting to know students and families and each day I am more and more proud of all that we are accomplishing this year. For the month of November we study and practice gratitude. I know that I am truly grateful to be a Sul Ross Raccoon.
