Principals’ Corner

Optimism (having a positive attitude and expecting the best possible outcomes) is the E8 character trait for the month of February. It fits perfectly for this time of year. I love participating in the E8 lessons that the teachers provide each morning. Our children are not only learning these qualities at home, but also at school. It feels so good to know that we are developing students both academically and social emotionally together.

Another piece of our students well being is physical health, of course. Nutrition and exercise are extremely important. For many children the amount of sugar or processed foods they eat affects their ability to focus and concentrate at school. Sometimes I see children walk in the building with a bag of chips for breakfast or a coke. There is no nutritional value in these items. When thinking about what to send for breakfast, lunch or even a snack, please choose carefully and think about how food nourishes the body and feeds the brain. As our children are developing they need lots of nourishing foods such as fruits, vegetables, or nuts. Let’s work together to develop happy healthy children.

With optimism and healthy habits, children look to us to be the examples. Let’s work hard this month to be great models of optimism and health for our Henderson Hawks!

A healthy outside, starts from the inside.-Anonymous
