Bryan ISD Elementary Libraries are excited to participate in the 2016 Texas Bluebonnet Award program. Each year, the state-wide TBA (Texas Bluebonnet Award) committee reviews and chooses 20 new books for students in grades 3-5. This diverse group of books includes picture books, chapter books, fiction, nonfiction, and cover a wide-variety of themes and topics.
This fall, our elementary libraries will kick off the this year’s program by introducing these books to their students. Students will be participating in read-aloud and guided reading of these books during their library time, and students will be encouraged to check them out and read them on their own as well. In January, students will be voting on their favorite bluebonnet book. Students must read 5 books in order to be eligible to vote. It is our goal that all elementary students in grades 3-5 are eligible to vote in this year’s January election. Votes from Bryan ISD and across the state will be tallied, and the winning book will be announced in February. An award is presented to the winning author during the Texas Library Conference, which is held in April.
