With the initial DRA testing behind us, teachers are evaluating their data and establishing their guided reading groups. A great tool to help teachers organize their guided reading instruction is a Guided Reading Binder.
Guided Reading Binders should include the following:
- guided reading group schedule
- DRA/EDL data
- guided reading lesson plans
- monitoring notes for each student
- running records
Handouts for these binders are located in Team Connect in the ELA/SLA folder: Click Here
The Guided Reading Binder is not only a tool for organizing their guided reading groups. It also helps teachers keep track of vital information to inform instruction. Teachers use monitoring notes and running records from their Guided Reading Binder to plan lessons that are targeted to meet individual student needs. Monitoring notes and running records also provide teachers with observable data that can be used to discuss a student’s reading progress in PLCs, RTI meetings, or parent conferences.
Please contact your Instructional Coach if you have any questions or need help getting your Guided Reading Binder started. Instructional coaches also have resources for Guided Reading and running records if you need more support in these areas.
