Rebecca Daley, English I teacher at Bryan High School, has an entire wall in her classroom dedicated to helping her students track their growth as readers. It’s not about points or grades, but about the actual amount of books they are reading! All it took was a quick trip to Home Depot to collect a batch of free paint sample cards and a few dollars to buy a bag of gold stars.
So if you are a MS or HS ELA teacher, think about how your students can place value on the books they are reading? This is a great component to support your Reader’s Workshop implementation! The more they read, the more they grow!
Can you post a picture of how the paint samples/stickers were used to track the amount of books each student read?
Certainly!
This is an awesome idea. I would love to see a sample of this as well. What a way to track the amount of books each student reads and the excitement of them learning to love reading too!
This was actually posted in the C2L that came out after this one.. If you still need inspiration, email Kelli Norgaard and I will hook you up!
