The Primary Reading Success Plan establishes criteria for promotion for Bryan ISD kindergarten, first grade and second grade students. All five criteria are reviewed to help determine promotion/retention/placement for students at the end of the year. Parent communication is key throughout the school year to help inform the parents of their child’s progress.
Expectations for primary grade teachers during the fall semester:
- Complete the DRA/EDL and ISIP/ISIP español for the BOY testing period.
- Enter screener scores into AWARE.
- Complete the student profile sheet for each child. (These completed profile sheets will be placed in the student cumulative folder at the end of the year.)
- Share information about the plan and the students BOY test scores during the fall parent conferences. Have parents sign the profile sheet to show that they have heard the BOY information.
With the change to Early Exit, there is a concern that our bilingual students will struggle to meet the criteria of the PRSP. The goal for all of our students is to meet the final criteria. We must have those high expectations to ensure that all of our students are reading on grade level.
Please understand that not meeting the standards does not mandate retention. All students who do not meet the EOY standards will have a Grade Placement Committee meeting to determine the next year’s placement.
