SpringBoard Teachers

The following is a message from SpringBoard:

Hello,
As we begin the school year, we know many of you may be using SpringBoard Digital to support virtual or hybrid instruction. We wanted to clearly outline the changes we’ve made to SpringBoard Digital to make it easier to use with the systems you already have in place. Please share this information with your teachers.

Support for SpringBoard Digital

Access step-by-step directions on how to use SpringBoard Digital by going to: https://springboard.collegeboard.org/springboard-digital/support

Revised Landing Page

The landing page now provides easy access to your eBook and a more intuitive way to move throughout the SpringBoard Digital program. With the improved user experience, teachers will be able to:

  • Share SpringBoard content through Google Classroom,
  • Better navigate from class to class,
  • Get easier access to our partners’ content, and much more.

Improved Navigation

Throughout the new SpringBoard Digital experience, teachers always maintain a simple way to access their eBook, Assessments, Professional Learning, and Additional Resources based upon their class and the class’s corresponding entitled products.

Assigning Activities, Assessments & Gradebook

Teachers want to use the Learning Management System (LMS) supported by their district. To streamline this process, SpringBoard Digital now supports sharing activities and assessments through Google Classroom, and integrating with Schoology and Canvas. If you need support in using your LMS, we recommend the following resources:

To enable teachers who use an alternative LMS to assign activities and assessments, we are actively working on a solution to allow teachers to copy an assignment link that could be opened only by those students rostered in their class within SpringBoard Digital. Like with Google Classroom, students will need to be logged in to SpringBoard Digital to access the assignment through a copied link. A notification will be posted in SpringBoard Digital when this functionality is available.

eBook Activities

Teachers can assign an eBook activity through sharing a link to that activity directly through Google Classroom, or through Schoology/Canvas. eBook users will also be able to “Copy Link to Clipboard” to share with students in an application of their choosing. Students are still also able to access and respond to eBook questions without creating an assignment, and teachers can view those student responses by accessing that student’s eBook through the dropdown menu available.

Desmos Activities (Math only) and student-facing Teacher Resources will be assigned using the “Share to Google Classroom” or “Copy Link to Clipboard” (coming soon) features within SpringBoard Digital.

Assessments

Teachers can assign an assessment through sharing a link to that assessment directly through Google Classroom, or through Schoology/Canvas. To enable teachers who use an alternative LMS to assign assessments, we are actively working on a solution to allow teachers to copy an assessment link that could be opened only by those students rostered in their class within SpringBoard Digital. Like with Google Classroom, students will need to be logged in to SpringBoard Digital to access the assessment through a copied link. A notification will be posted in SpringBoard Digital when this functionality is available.

If assigned through Google Classroom or the shareable link, teachers can view Progress Reports within SpringBoard Digital. If assigned through Schoology/Canvas, the progress reports can be viewed within the respective LMS.

Gradebook

As we are now integrating with district LMS, we’ve removed the Gradebook within SpringBoard Digital.  Teachers can see the results from specific assessments within the Progress Reports area of SpringBoard Digital. If using Google Classroom, teachers can release results to students by accessing the Progress Report for an assessment and clicking on the button “Release Grades”.

In order to provide feedback to students on a given lesson, teachers are encouraged to add annotations within SpringBoard Digital and to utilize other LMSs for scoring/assignment flows. Teachers can no longer provide an overall score for an activity within SpringBoard Digital; this approach aligns with our pedagogical approach that activities are not a means for measuring student performance, but an opportunity for learning and formative assessment.

Access Teacher Resources for the Courses Above and Below your Course

Teacher accounts now have a “Sample Class” which allow teachers access to all books within their district. Teachers can also add above and below grade-level books to their class to provide access to their students. Depending on the district set-up of SpringBoard, you may need to contact your District Administrator in order to add these resources to your class.

Community

The majority of our teachers were accessing the Community in order to use support resources for SpringBoard Digital. However, to access those support resources, you had to be logged into SpringBoard Digital.

We have moved our SpringBoard Digital Support to https://springboard.collegeboard.org/springboard-digital/support – our SpringBoard public website. This allows all teachers to access support for SpringBoard Digital. Additionally, we’ve improved the support provided, making it more intuitive to use.

We have removed the Community from SpringBoard Digital.

English Language Arts-Specific Updates

Teacher and Student Books: PDF

Teacher and student copies of the books will be available as PDFs within the Table of Contents in the eBook.

Math-Specific Updates

Math eBook Tools

SpringBoard now provides access to Desmos Geometry Tools and the Desmos Graphing Calculator directly from the landing page. Desmos Calculators (four-function, scientific, and graphing) are also available within the math eBook and are the primary set of math tools now available there.

We have transitioned away from Geogebra Tools as Desmos Geometry provides the most utilized resources from Geogebra as well as a consistent experience for teachers and students.

Desmos Activity Tab

Coming soon!  Desmos Classroom Activities will be available to teachers on the landing page as a tab in their top navigation. Activities will be assignable within SpringBoard Digital through “Share to Google Classroom” or “Copy Link to Clipboard”, which can be shared via any LMS. Students will need to be logged in to SpringBoard Digital to access the Desmos Activity assignment.

Please log in to SpringBoard Digital to see all there is to offer. If you need help logging in, contact SBTechSupport@collegeboard.org.

Sincerely, SpringBoard Program
