{"id":1213,"date":"2021-02-08T07:47:53","date_gmt":"2021-02-08T13:47:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/blogs.bryanisd.org\/BryanCollegiateHS\/?p=1213"},"modified":"2021-02-12T08:29:56","modified_gmt":"2021-02-12T14:29:56","slug":"alumni-spotlight-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blogs.bryanisd.org\/BryanCollegiateHS\/2021\/02\/08\/alumni-spotlight-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Alumni Spotlight"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Each week, we will be spotlighting a Bryan Collegiate alumni and what they are doing now!<br><br>Name:&nbsp;<em><strong>Stephen Capps<\/strong><\/em><br><br>When did you graduate from Bryan Collegiate?&nbsp;<strong><em>May<\/em><\/strong><em><strong> 201<\/strong><\/em><strong>3<\/strong><br><br>What college\/university did you attend?&nbsp;<em><strong>Texas A&amp;M University<\/strong><\/em><br><br>When did you graduate from your college\/university?<strong><em>&nbsp;December 2016 <\/em><\/strong><br><br>What did you major in at your college\/university?<strong><em>&nbsp;I earned a Bachelor\u2019s of Science degree in Applied Mathematics<\/em><\/strong><br><br>What are you doing now?&nbsp;<strong><em>I am currently a Sales Engineer for Johnson Controls in Houston<\/em><\/strong><br><br>What would you like to tell current Bryan Collegiate students?<br><strong><em><br>In hindsight, the most valuable class I took at Bryan Collegiate was PCC, and I regret ignoring the important lessons of the course.<br><br>We all treated it like a blowoff class but I wish I could go back and slap myself for (1) Not paying attention to the personal finance portion of the course &#8211; I made a ton of bad money decisions while in college and my first year of work. (Like buying a new car ?, racking up debt, living beyond my means because I thought I deserved it for my hard work) and (2) Not hustling to get more grants and scholarships. Student debt is awful, and I wish I actually tried in high school to get more ~literal~ free money.  These things haunt you for much longer than things like which college you go to or what grades you got.<br><br>Bonus advice: Learn how to sell yourself, your accomplishments, and your efforts.
