February – Teacher of the Month

The staff and students of Bryan Collegiate High School proudly nominate Mr. Brad Berger as the Bryan ISD secondary teacher of the month for February 2020.  Mr. Berger has been at Bryan Collegiate a whole seven months and since his first day, he has been a tireless advocate for our students at Bryan Collegiate. Because of this advocacy, we want to tell you why he should be Bryan ISD’s secondary teacher of the month and how he embodies the Essential Eight characteristic of WORK ETHIC!

Since his very first day, Brad has been a tremendous asset to the Bryan Collegiate community.  Brad was hired to teach Advanced Placement Physics and coming from teaching 8th grade math the year before, we thought that the learning curve would be steep for him.  But, man were we wrong! Brad jumped in with both feet and has been a sponge in learning everything he possibly can in terms of teaching an advanced level course with non-traditional AP students.  You can find him working early in the morning tutoring students, and late into the afternoon tutoring students and we have never seen him turn away a student who has asked for help. He is always looking for new and innovative ways to reach his students and meet each and every one of them on their level on AP Physics.  One of his colleagues commented that Brad is always “seeking to improve his lessons on a daily basis and a willingness to try new strategies and activities if it will help his students.” and one of his students said that “Mr. Berger shows a lot of work ethic in making sure that all of his students understand the subject and tries his best to make sure that students do their best in his class. ”  This is true WORK ETHIC.

Mr. Berger has also taken the tremendous responsibility of co-sponsoring the Bryan Collegiate High School Robotics club.  BCHS has truly only had two past faculty members that had the repertoire, ability and willingness to take on sponsoring robotics.  The robotics competitions and events take a great deal of time outside of the school day and Mr. Berger graciously and excitedly stepped up the plate to do so.  Getting high school students this engaged in the robotics world would not have been possible without the countless hours after school that he and Mr. Tolhurst spends time in the robotics lab with kids and parents.  This is true WORK ETHIC.

Brad’s incredible WORK ETHIC has consistently demonstrated what it takes to be successful in and out of the classroom.  He is an incredible role model for all of our students and a tremendous asset to the BCHS community for enriching the lives of so many of our students.  It is for these reasons that we are proud to nominate Mr. Brad Berger for the Bryan Collegiate High School teacher of the month for February 2020.
