Young Spurs Writing Contest

Launched in 2010, the Young Spurs writing contest aims to offer high school and community college writers the opportunity to learn from journalism professionals at the annual conference in Grapevine, Texas. The 2020 Young Spurs theme focuses on exploring favorite pursuits (in coordination with the 2020 theme for the George H. W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum essay contest).

Five Bryan Collegiate High School students were selected as 2020 Young Spurs based on their essay entries to the Bush Library Essay Contest last year.

Their nomination as a Young Spur allows them to attend the prestigious Mayborn Writing Conference (which will be virtual this year) on Oct. 16-18.

Only 10 Young Spurs were chosen this year and five of them are from Bryan Collegiate!

Our 2020 Young Spurs are:
Jacob Kidd
Mallory Garner
Emily Martinez
Stefany Lopez
Ana Rojo-Mayorga
